I grew up to know Santa as father Christmas, I came to England, I realized he was called Santa Claus while in some other part of the world like Germany, they call him Weihnachtsmann, he’s known as Agios Vassilis in Greece while in Netherlands, he’s called Sinterklaas. People call him different names based on which part of the world they are, he’s known to bring Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve to children who behave well, he does this with the assistance of the reindeer, he delivers the presents without letting anyone knows and drops them under your Christmas tree.

The only way you and your household will know Santa has visited is if he has had a sip of your tea and snacks. Santa Claus started with a man called Nicholas of myra from turkey, who is now known as Saint Nicholas.  He was born by wealthy parents who died when he was very young. This made him inherit all their wealth, he was known to be very religious, a Christian who used all his wealth to help the poor and the sick.

He was also known particularly  for helping a poor man whose three daughters could not get married because they were so poor, he gave them three bags of golds that made them have more than enough money to get married.

Dear parent I encourage you to use this opportunity to tell your children about this man called Saint Nicholas and his generosity and also liken it to the birth of Jesus, tell them that GOD was kind and full of love hence he gave us his son. Tell them that even when he was born, he was given three special gifts that include gold, frankincense, and myrrh and use it as a teachable moment to teach the love of Christ.

Teach them the importance of giving, who to give, when to give, and how to give.   Also teach them that giving must not be in monetary or material form that it can be giving of time, knowledge etc. Teach them that when you give, you should not expect a return back or a thank you even though it happens sometimes. Teach them that you don’t give because your friends are giving, you shouldn’t be pressured for any reason, it should come from the heart.

Lastly, teach them that for any gift they’ll receive, big or small, they should by all means, appreciate it and say thank you to the givers. Whatever gift they’ll give to you as parents, accept it with so much excitement and appreciate them greatly for it.
